Westwood #1

Great to see Lee Westwood at the top of the golf rankings! Although it seems wrong Westwood should move up in the rankings when he hasn't played for the last 3 weeks, he has performed brilliantly over the last 2 years, with numerous top 10 finishes. For consistency, he's got to be number 1!

I'm Back!

Oops - it's been a while, but I'm back! Got any golf news or found any great offers? Let me know!

The Open

It's finally here! The oldest Golf Championship returns this week – that’s right, it’s time for the 150th Open Championship! The only Major held outside the USA is due to start at Old Course at St Andrews, and there are a handful of British golfers that look to be hitting form at the right time to give themselves a great chance of success. But, can any of them win it?? What do you think?

Friday 2 July 2010

To Grip??

Does anybody out there re-grip their golf clubs? I had always thought it's part of the way to tell when your golf clubs need updating, but looking at the new range from Black Widow, they look superb! The sales blurb also makes it seem as though it's a game improvement - maybe it's time to give it a try?!

Woods Not Automatic Pick for Ryder Cup

It's all very well Corey Pavin saying that Tiger Woods is not guaranteed an automatic place for the Ryder Cup, but if he's fit, can anyone honestly imagine him not being there? He is such an iconic golfer that the advertisers love, that it's hard to imagine a major golf tournament without him. Any golf tournament without Tiger Woods is worse as a result - he brings in the crowds and his aura inspires the golfers around him to raise their game, even when he isn't playing particularly well.

McIllroy Goes to PGA Tour

Interesting to see that Rory McIllroy has moved over to the PGA Tour, but what does this mean for the European Tour? Is it to be a platform for golfers to move onto bigger and better things? It's almost as if there is a league hierarchy in the golf world, with the PGA Tour being the Premier League!

Great Performance by Ishikawa

Japanese golfer Ryo Ishikawa did exceptionally well at The Crowns! As an 18 year old golfer, a top 10 finish would be considered an achievement, but he went beyond this by not only winning the golf tournament, but also shooting an astonishing 58 on the final day!

He also started the final day 6 shots behind the day 3 leader, making the performance even more impressive. It looks like the young golfer has a great career ahead of him - how long will it be until he is playing regularly on the PGA or European Tour?!

Much Needed Rain

It rained! We finally had some rain in the south east [of England], which the golf courses in the area really needed. Sure it's great when your drive bounces on the fairway and goes shooting forward, but trying to send mid-irons onto the green is a nightmare, unless they bounce really early! The rain yesterday was much needed, and I'm looking forward to getting out onto the golf course again.

Davis Honesty Makes Golf a Winner

It was fantastic to see the honesty shown by English golfer Brian Davis in the play-off of the Verizon Heritage. His admission that his golf club touched a reed in his backswing, and the resulting 2-stroke penalty practically gave the golf tournament to Jim Furyk, but showed that golf really is a gentleman's game.

Wednesday 14 April 2010

Masters Over

What a great win for Mickelson! The Masters was fantastic to watch, and the Callaway Golfer had a brilliant last day, especially 'that shot' on the 13th! Roll on next year's event =)

Also good to see Tiger Woods back and doing well. By his standards 4th isn't what he's aiming for, but it was still a great performance by the Nike golfer in his 1st golf competition in weeks.

Friday 9 April 2010

Loving the Masters!

Loving the Masters! Tiger Woods is looking good, finishing 3rd after the first day, while Couples is ahead with a superb 6-under par, and Tom Watson, who almost won the British Open, showing the younger golfers how it's done! Day 2 is underway - can't wait to start watching!

Tuesday 6 April 2010

The Tiger Returns

Great to hear that Tiger Woods is back to the world of golf at the Masters this week. Woods has completely changed the world of golf and it’s difficult to see anyone else challenging Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 Major championships. Best of luck to Tiger – let’s judge him by his performance on the golf course, not his actions off it.

Els Prepares for Masters by Winning Arnold Palmer Invitational

Ernie Els looks like he's in great form as we approach the Masters! South African golfer Els won the Arnold Palmer Invitational by 2 shots, just 2 weeks after his win at the World Golf Championships.

2 wins in 2 consecutive weeks is a great achievement by anybody's standards, and in the build-up to the 1st Major of the year, Els will be full of confidence, and the Callaway Golfer must be one of the favourites for the competition.

Only just over a week to go!

When playing golf you will need freedom of movement so that your swing is not restricted by your golf clothing, some garments contain stretch fabrics to allow for this.

In terms of the technologies used in golf clothing, many brands use them to keep you cool and dry on the golf course. The technology used in the garment you buy will depend upon the golf brand you have chosen. Range Finders

Golf GPS and Golf Range Finders

GPS range finders work in the same way as sat navs in cars. The golf GPS systems such as Garmin, SonoCaddie and SkyCaddie allow you to plan your golf in more detail. You are able to download golf courses to your golf range finder, which is the same as having a yardage chart in your hand, but instead of a book you have an electronic gadget. They are R&A and USGA approved which make them competition legal and make your round more enjoyable as it tells you where all the hazards lie.

Another type of golf range finder is the Laser this uses an invisible laser beam which bounces off a distanced target at a click of a button, using advanced digital electronics; the range finder instantly calculates the distance within +/- 1 yard/metre. It then shows the range in either yards or metres on a through-the-lens LCD display. When using this gadget it literally takes seconds for the laser to relay the measurement, this is the most accurate form of measurement out of the two types of golf range finders. These are also R&A and USGA approved and can also be used in competition golf.

Electric Golf Trolleys Guide

electric golf trolley

For most golfers, an Electric Golf Trolley is big investment and an exciting one at that! Benefitting from a motor to propel them around the golf course, electric golf trolleys are the ultimate energy preserving method of carrying your golf clubs around the golf course – Let the electric motor take all the strain, leaving you to concentrate on your golf and saving your energy to the 18th hole and beyond!

Once the golf bag is attached to the trolley and the motor is switched on, all the golfer needs do is guide the trolley along and the motor will do most of the work. Electric Golf Trolleys are particularly useful for golfers with bad backs or those who prefer to exert less energy when transferring their golf equipment from hole to hole.

Electric Golf Trolleys generally come with a lead acid 18 or 36 hole battery, which as the name suggests, last for 18 or 36 holes of golf. The 36 hole version is ideal for golf competitions, with the 18 hole version more suitable for recreational or senior golfers.

A recent introduction is the lithium battery, which is approximately 25% the weight of a traditional lead acid battery, making it much easier to transport the electric golf trolley, and with some models, even allows you to fold down with the battery in place. These lithium batteries are not only significantly lighter and smaller than traditional batteries, but also last a lot longer, and are much more reliable.

Modern pull trolleys are typically made of lightweight metal and come with wheels, a golf bag platform and, in many cases, an ergonomically designed handle to increase your comfort level as you pull it along the green or fairway at the golf course.

To make pull trolley more golfer-friendly, they fold up incredibly small, allowing you to easily store it in the boot with your golf bag on the way to the golf course.

Distance Golf Balls

distance golf balls

For less experienced golfers in the mid to high handicap range, Distance golf balls are ideal as they offer a few extra yards and less spin and feel. These features give the average golfer a bit more of a chance to attack their scores and lower their handicap.

Distance golf balls are designed to maximise power transfer from your golf swing to the golf ball, so that they fly fast from your clubface and down the fairway. Distance golf balls also often go on a high flight to assist low handicap golfers in getting extra distance, and make par-4 and par-5 holes more achievable.
